I want to make it very clear that I thought that KD and Kyrie on the same team would probably not work and now that James Harden is on the Nets I have never been more confident that something will fail. Yesterday was the first game where the three stars all played together. Everyone was excited and expected them to blow out an average Cavs team. The Nets went on to lose in 2OT but realistically this game should have never even gotten to the first OT. The Nets looked awful for most of the game and just barely tied it up at the end of the 4th. Their biggest problem is that they have the worst bench in the league. It has been a long time since I have seen a team’s bench score 10 points and that is not even accounting for the fact that this game went into 2OT. Basically, if any of the Nets starters need a break this team becomes useless. It’s okay right now for all the Nets starters to play almost 40 minutes a game but the issue with that is that you can’t do that all season and then go into the playoffs all beat up which is where your staters need to play 40+ minutes a game.
I understand this team needs to gel and figure out how to play with one another but you shouldn’t have to worry about your team not working well together against a very mediocre Cavs team. The Cavs are a solid roster but they are at best a 7 seed and if this Nets team is really this amazing team some critics say they are then they should have no problem beating the Cavs. This game didn’t come down to who was better coached this game came down to who wanted it more and who showed up and the Cavs won that battle by a mile. I know at the end of the day this is a meaningless game in the middle of January but at the same time, these are the games that show who is always coming out ready to play. The spotlight was massive on the Nets tonight and I don’t know what else they could need to get the message they need to come to play. Kyrie has shown with all of his antics this year that the players run this team and this isn’t a bad thing as long as the players can do a good job running the team. Lebron has been successful at this for years but I am not entirely sure anyone on this Nets team has the ability to step up and lead and with an unproven head coach in Steve Nash. This team could be at the start of a downfall and it will be interesting to see how the Nets move on from this and if they can figure things out.
