The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the biggest sports franchises in the world. Every year, all big-name free agents are rumored to sign with the Lakers. Very few of these rumors ever come true in the end. In the last couple of years, it has been very bad for the lakers. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2013. They finally signed a big free agent last year in Lebron. He threatened to trade everyone and the team fell apart and was no good. Just one offseason removed from that and people believe that the Lakers are now the top team in the west. The Lakers have improved a lot by getting Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins. While these are very good players I still have a hard time seeing how a team in the west can go from a non-playoff team to the top in the west. Just cause the Warriors fell apart now everybody thinks the west is wide open. People quickly forget that the Nuggets fought the Warriors for the one seed the whole season. They got better this offseason so why is no one talking about them. The one reason everyone wants to talk about the Lakers is Lebron. He is arguably the best player in NBA history but if last season was any indicator then Lebron is not the same player he once was. This is not saying much since he is still one of the best players in the NBA right now I just don’t know if he is the best anymore. Laker fans completely neglect that this could be the case and instead are too caught up in proclaiming how Lebron is the “GOAT”. I am a Warriors fan myself and over the last years, I have been lucky enough to be a fan of a super team. The one problem consistently with a super team is that the team has no depth and when injuries happen they hurt your team a lot more. The Warriors last year were a prime example of this. I am not saying this Lakers team is a super team but they are kind of close to that. They heavily will rely on their starters this year. If someone like Cousins gets hurt which has become a pattern over the last couple seasons I don’t think they will be able to recover. The Lakers are a good team they will definitely make the playoffs but I think there is too much hype around a team that has a lot of question marks and risks around it. People often look at the big moves that are made a think those teams will win but do not forget the teams that were already really good that quietly got better.
